All Foreigners Will Buy Real Estate in Turkey
Turkish Environment and Urban Planning Minister Erdoğan Bayraktar has said the government is preparing a draft bill to pave the way for almost unrestricted real estate sales to all foreigners.
Buying real estate in Turkey will be open to every nationality
Legislation has been drafted that will remove the principle of reciprocity, meaning that all foreign citizens will be able to buy real estate in Turkey even if their own countries don't grant comparable rights to Turks.
At the meeting "AK Parti 2023 Vision for Brand Cities" in Kahramanmaraş on Saturday 17.09.2011, Mr. Bayraktar said: "We will not sell the land that we are not supposed to sell for military or security purposes, but we will remove all obstacles before the sale of property representing investments to all countries' citizens that will create employment and increase the quality of life and exports in Turkey".
Turkey has a reciprocity rule for real estate sales to foreigners
Currently, there are 89 countries citizens do not have the right to own property in Turkey since Turkish citizens are not entitled to a similar right in their countries, among which are Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, the Arabic Gulf countries.
Once allowed to purchase property in Turkey, the nationals of these countries are expected to show strong interest in Turkish real estate.
