2026 Megisti-Kaş Swimming Marathon Brings Excitement to Antalya

The turquoise waters between Kaş and the Meis Island will once again host one of the Mediterranean’s most remarkable open water events in June 2026. The Megisti-Kaş Swimming Marathon has been held every year since 2005 as part of the International Lycia-Kaş Culture and Art Festival, and it continues to bring together swimmers from around the world this year, as well.

The Cross-Border Swimming Experience Between Meis and Kaş

Unlike pool races, open water swimming changes with the sea itself. Waves, currents, wind, and temperature can completely transform the experience from one year to another. Therefore, every edition of the Megisti-Kaş race offers something unique. While challenging themselves physically, swimmers also experience the beauty of the Mediterranean between these destinations.

The 2026 Megisti-Kaş Swimming Marathon will run on Sunday, 28 June, between 06:00 and 14:00 (GMT+3). The race will take place in Antalya’s popular coastal district of Kaş and connect the town with Meis Island through an unforgettable sea route.

Main Race Categories

The organization has several categories designed for both experienced athletes and recreational swimmers. The marathon route is seen as the highlight of the event. Swimmers will cover around 7 kilometers across the Mediterranean with a four-hour time limit. Participation is limited but this keeps the race safe and organized.

For swimmers looking for a shorter challenge, there is also a mid line course which offers a half-distance alternative. Meanwhile, shorter beach races and children’s categories create a lively festival atmosphere around the coastline.

The event has a gradual pricing system:

1 February-31 May

• Marathon: €250
• Midline: €90
• Beach Swim: €30

1-23 June

• Marathon: €270
• Midline: €110
• Beach Swim: €40

Safety Measures and Race Rules

As open-water races require strict safety standards, especially on long-distance sea courses, the organizers enforce the following regulations:

• Inflatable swimming buoys are mandatory for the 7 km and 3.5 km courses.
• Wetsuits are not permitted.
• Swimmers who leave the marked route or exceed the time limits will be disqualified.
• Food and hydration support will be available during the longer courses.
• Environmental protection rules are strictly enforced, and littering may lead to disqualification.
• Escort boats, checkpoints, and referees will monitor the course throughout the race.

*Also, the organizers reserve the right to adjust the course or schedule depending on sea and weather conditions.

Key Requirements and Registration Details

Before taking part in the race, you should be aware of the key requirements and registration conditions below:

• Participants must be at least 18 years old.
• Marathon swimmers must have a valid passport and visa for the Meis crossing.
• Registration becomes official only after payment confirmation.
• Registration fees are non-refundable and cannot be transferred.
• Incorrect registration details can be corrected via email until 23 June.

Note: As the participation quotas are limited, it is better to register early. Organizers announced that registrations will remain open until 23 June 2026 unless quotas are filled earlier.
