Antalya Homes®: Foreign Property Sales Rise by 29% - Milliyet

Antalya Homes ® was featured in Milliyet, reporting on the rising demand for residential property among foreign buyers in Türkiye.

According to the report, although 3,885 fewer homes were sold overall in January and February 2018 compared to the same period of the previous year, home sales to foreigners increased by 29%, reaching the highest level recorded in the past five years. This demonstrates that, despite a slowdown in the domestic housing market, international interest in Turkish real estate remains strong and continues to grow.

The number of homes sold to foreign buyers rose from 2,692 units in January–February 2017 to 3,471 units during the same period in 2018, reflecting strong and growing international interest in Türkiye’s real estate market. These figures underline the appeal of Turkey as a property destination for global investors and buyers seeking holiday homes, investment opportunities, or permanent residence.

Foreign buyers seeking property in Türkiye primarily prefer İstanbul, Antalya, Bursa, Yalova, and Trabzon, with İstanbul ranking first among the most favored cities. This preference highlights the strategic and cultural importance of these cities, offering a mix of modern urban living, coastal attractions, and investment potential.

Commenting on the broader housing market, Bayram Tekçe, Chairman of Antalya Homes®, stated that the decline in overall housing sales was mainly driven by demand saturation, rising mortgage interest rates, and banks’ reluctance to extend housing loans. These factors contributed to slower growth in the domestic sector, even as foreign sales surged.

He also stated that, when examining the nationalities of people buying property in Turkey, in 2018, the highest number of sales was made to Iraqis, followed, in order, by citizens of Saudi Arabia, Russia, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Iran.

Tekçe also highlighted the positive impact of regulatory changes introduced in 2017, such as Turkish citizenship by investment and VAT exemptions for foreign property buyers. While approximately 1,500 homes per year were sold to foreigners before 2013, this figure surpassed 22,000 units in 2017, demonstrating the effectiveness of these incentives in boosting international property sales.
